Traditional dentistry concentrates on preventing and/or treating oral
disease. Cosmetic dentistry is more of an elective service for the
reason that it basically concentrates on improving the look of a
person’s teeth, mouth and smile. Cosmetic dentistry also provides
restorative benefits. Dental fillings are used to treat and restore
decayed teeth. Most fillings were composed of amalgam, gold, and other
materials that were known to leave visible markings on the teeth.
Today, you can select fillings that closely match the color of your
teeth. Most of these fillings are constructed of composite materials or
porcelain. Consequently, the majority of people now see very little
difference between their fillings and their natural teeth.

These advancements in technology have ensured that most customers can
expect a more long-lasting and predictable service than ever before.
Additionally, dentists are currently using more conservative cosmetic
dentistry procedures to preserve as much of your natural tooth
structure as possible, depending upon your specific medical
circumstances. Some examples of Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments are:

1. Implants (Dental)

Dental implants are artificial tooth root replacements that are used as
a part of prosthetic dentistry in order to compensate for tooth decay.
Often the result is not only an enhanced smile, but also a more
youthful appearance, since missing teeth cause the face to collapse,
making you seem older.

2. Inlays/Onlays

Inlays and onlays made from porcelain or composite materials are a
long-lasting yet cosmetic way to provide a “filling” to teeth with
tooth decay or similar structural damage.

3. Composite Bonding

Chipped, broken, discolored or decayed teeth may be repaired or have
their appearance corrected using a process known as composite bonding.
A dental composite material with the appearance of enamel and dentin is
applied into the cavity or on top of the surface of a tooth, where it
is then sculpted into form, contoured and hardened with a
high-intensity light. The end result is a restoration that blends
invisibly with the remainder of the adjoining tooth structure and the
rest of your natural teeth to produce a healthy, bright smile.

4. Total Mouth Reconstruction

While consulting with you on the subject of a smile make-over to
primarily enhance the esthetic look of your smile, your dentist may
well discover that there is a requirement to offer necessary treatment
to correct functional problems with your bite, muscles, teeth and bone
structure. If you need complete mouth restoration, the materials
available today make it possible for your dentist to provide you with
durable, functional and clinically sound treatments that also look
natural.

5. Tooth Whitening Procedures

Teeth whitening is perhaps the most commonly recommended cosmetic
dentistry procedure. Teeth are frequently tainted from smoking, food,
drink (coffee, tea or red wine) or poor oral hygiene. Bleaching the
teeth can improve the look of your smile.

6. Dental Veneers (Composite and Porcelain)

Composite or porcelain laminates that are adhesively bonded to the
surface of a tooth to correct and repair chips and cracks will improve
a worn appearance or severe tooth staining. Veneers could also be
recommended if you have gaps in your teeth or if you have not had
success with teeth whitening.

The 30 Second Smile Toothbrush is a new toothbrush that is created to
help you brush your tooth better. It features six micro-brush heads
that encompass your teeth and instantly cleanses the top, base, the
front, backside and biting surfaces, all at the same time.

The main reason this toothbrush is known as 30 Second Smile is because
utilizing it for only thirty seconds is like cleansing 3 minutes with a
single headed toothbrush. This toothbrush cleanses all areas of the
teeth simultaneously, therefore it completes the task in a fraction of
the time.

The revolutionary technique used guarantees you would not miss any
spots when cleansing your teeth. You have a exact cleaning each time in
order to help you maintain your teeth.

The 30 Second Smile Toothbrush automatically cleans your teeth based on
the ideal method by both dentists and periodontists. This is called the
Bass brushing technique.

The Bass technique is named after Dr. Charles Bass whom discovered the
optimal way for cleansing the tooth. It involves having the bristles of
the toothbrush tightly applied into outer side of the lower tooth, at
an angle of roughly forty five degrees straight into the crevices along
with the spaces in between the tooth.

Short forwards and backwards stroke motions of the toothbrush is
required to be used so that you can efficiently dislodge foreign
material. For the upper tooth the bristles of the toothbrush are
applied in the same method.

The 30 Second Smile Toothbrush was invented and designed according to
that principal. It automatically aligns the bristles of the toothbrush
at the ideal forty five degree angle for powering away plaque and
cleansing your tooth.

The construction of the 30 Second Smile ensures that the micro-brushes
is at the appropriate angle and nearly impossible to make a mistake
while using it. It may be safely used by children and actually is a
better way for kids to being be cleansing their teeth.

Often children tend not to cleanse their tooth properly and miss over
certain areas. Those that don’t like brushing their tooth may hurry the
job and have portions of their teeth uncleaned but because the 30
Second Smile tootbrush only does take about 30 seconds in order to get
the task done and not minutes, it’s not a problem for moms and dads.

The health complications of being overweight, such as increased risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and certain cancers, have long been reported. Health care professionals often urge patients to manage their weight and strive to get physical exercise each day to achieve and maintain overall health. And now, researchers have now uncovered another benefit of maintaining a fit lifestyle: healthy teeth and gums.
In a study published in the August issue of the Journal of Periodontology,
researchers found that subjects who maintained a healthy weight and had high levels of physical fitness had a lower incidence of severe periodontitis. Using body mass index (BMI) and percent body fat as a measure of weight control, and maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) as a measure of physical fitness, researchers compared subjects’ weight and fitness variables with the results of a periodontal examination. Those with the lowest BMI and highest levels of fitness had significantly lower rates of severe periodontitis.
Periodontitis, or gum disease, is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the supporting bone and tissues around the teeth. Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss in adults, and research has suggested gum disease is associated with other diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Samuel Low, DDS, MS, Associate Dean and professor of periodontology at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, and President of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), says that research connecting overall health and periodontal health should motivate people to maintain a healthy weight and get enough physical fitness.
“Research continues to demonstrate that our overall health and oral health
are connected,” says Dr. Low. “Weight management and physical fitness
both contribute to overall health; and now we believe staying in shape may help lower your risk of developing gum disease. Since gum disease is related to other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes,” continues Dr. Low, “There is even more reason to take care of yourself through diet and exercise.”
Dr. Low also encourages comprehensive periodontal care through daily tooth brushing and flossing, and routine visits to a dental professional.

The tooth decay the dentist found on the elderly man’s mouth was one
highly unusual black hole on one of his front teeth. It turns out the
man gagged on his heart medicine when he stuck the nitroglycerine
tablets under his tongue where they’re supposed to go so instead he
stuck them under his top lip. These tablets ate away at his tooth,
creating that big hole.

Hundreds of medicines that Americans take every day, from the country’s
most popular blood pressure pills to chewable vitamin C tablets, can
cause serious tooth decay and gum disease, oral medicine experts told
the American Dental Association. According to the oral medicine
experts, doctors might not have a clue that these dental side effects
exist, and if they do know, they’re not telling.

A dentist and pharmacologist at the University of Buffalo pointed out
the need for patients to reveal their medical history and medications
to their dentists. He said they have to look very carefully at the
medicines their patients take and think very carefully about the side
effects.

Drug side effects, as presented by oral medicine specialists who taught
at this week’s ADA meeting, include the following. Gum swelling is
apparently suffered by 20% of patients who take calcium channel
blockers for high blood pressure and heart disease. Gum disease and
swelling are caused by the invasion of bacteria through the open
pockets in gums brought by inflammation. Some of these medicines are
taken by most Americans.

Drugs for epilepsy and drugs for child hyperactivity may also cause
similar swellings. A more serious type of overgrowth of the gums is a
side effect of cyclosporin, a drug used to prevent organ rejection.
Inflammation caused by leukemia is similar in appearance.

A lot of drugs are responsible for causing dry mouth, which is also
caused by radiation treatment. Since not enough saliva can pose as a
dental problem for people, those who suffer from lack of it may need
topical fluoride treatment. Problems may be so severe that the dentist
would often ask doctors to change their prescription to another drug if
possible.

If not, then regular trips to the dentist are in order, as well as
strict plaque control. Another dentist pointed out that a clean mouth
is all you need to prevent gum side effects. If no plaque can be found
in the mouth, then there’s nothing to worry about, he said.

He had in his possession of a Dilantin patient with extremly swollen
gums. He stated that a patient who is taking Dilantin is recommended to
consult the dentist in 10 days so that the gum pockets where bacteria
lurks could be treated. Prescription drugs are not the only sources of
dental problems. Aside from medicines, lozenges and cough drops could
pose as a problem since they contain sugar.

Repeated occurrence of cavities was the problem of one woman. Dentists
couldn’t understand why she had this condition when she brushed
regularly and did not eat so many sweets. Later on, it was discovered
by the receptionist that the woman was popping three packs of antacids
into her mouth every day.

Detecting oral cancer in its earliest stages can
save the lives of the nearly 40,500 people diagnosed annually. But
early detection has been difficult.

Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine
researchers discovered a biomarker, called human beta defensin-3
(hBD-3), which may serve as an early warning. The defensin is present
in all oral cancers and associated with the early stages of oral
cancer.

"Using the biomarker to detect oral cancer holds potential for
saving lives when the cancer is most curable. Annually some 10,000
people die from this cancer," said Ge Jin, assistant professor of
biological sciences at the dental school.

He led the study, "An Antimicrobial Peptide Regulates
Tumor-Associated Macrophage Trafficking via the Chemokine Receptor
CCR2, a Model for Tumorigenesis." The Public Library of Science
published the research in PLoS ONE.

Oral cancer first appears as white or red lesions in the mouth,
the same as noncancerous lesions.

Often, the lesions are not biopsied, and cancer is not
discovered until it becomes apparent in its later stages, when it has
metastasized to other organs. Such a late-stage diagnosis is generally
fatal and can result in costly surgeries and treatments or
disfigurement that may include removing parts of the tongue, jaw and
cheek. All this can be avoided with early removal of the lesion.

The hBD-3 biomarker is one of many innate immune peptides found
in the epithelial lining of the mouth. In a normal, healthy oral
cavity, hBD-1, -2 and -3 ward off the hundreds of bacteria that
constantly challenge the human immune system in the mouth.

While hBD-1 and -2 are on the frontline defense, hBD-3 is only
found in the basal layer where oral cancers grow. The researchers
report that the hBD-2 disappears and only hBD3 is present when a
cancerous tumor progresses.

Jin added that the lone presence of hBD-3 made the research team
question its role on tumor growth and found it attracts other molecules
that actually help the cancerous tumor grow and eventually spread to
other parts of the body.

It appears hBD-3 plays a role in the development of the
chemokine receptor called CCR2 that recruits tumor-associated
macrophage cells to infiltrate the tumor site and stimulate tumor
growth. The tumor-associated macrophages and other molecules release
growth factors that encourage the progression of the tumor. Eventually
tumor cells break away, travel and spread the cancer to other places in
the body.

"This is the first time that we have evidence that CCR2, too,
has a role in oral cancer growth," said Jin.

The researcher plans to continue studying the role of hBDs in
oral health and to develop diagnostic tools that use the biomarker to
detect early cancer.

preserve a wholesome set of enamel, you need to take away

plaque, a transparent layer of bacteria that stays on

the floor of your teeth.

Some effective ways to stop plaque from forming is

to brush your tooth not less than twice a day and floss at

least once a day. Brushing your enamel will assist

stimulate your gums and in flip keep them healthy and

less susceptible to gum diseases.

Choose The Proper Toothpaste Toothpastes are usually

made from detergents, abrasives and foaming agents. The

commonest lively ingredient in toothpaste is

fluoride. Fluoride is the component of the toothpaste

that’s answerable for stopping cavities from

forming.

When selecting what toothpaste to purchase, make sure that
it has a large amount of fluoride to keep your mouth

cavity-free. Studies say that 1 out of 10 folks has a

tendency to accumulate tartar rapidly. What is tartar?

It is truly plaque that is difficult to remove and

damaging as a result of it is already in hardened form.

There are anti-tartar toothpastes and mouthwashes

accessible in the market immediately which may help prevent

tartar formation. One other great tip for stopping the

formation of tartar is brushing the teeth located close to

the salivary glands.

For individuals that seem to have enamel which are

delicate to strain, chilly and heat, there are

toothpastes specially made for delicate teeth.

Nonetheless, a visit to the dentist could also be most

acceptable so that the dentist can assess whether the

sensitivity of the teeth could lead to a significant issue

corresponding to nerve irritation or extreme cavity.

Learn How To Floss Although brushing is taken into account to

be crucial half within the personal dental care

routine, it doesn’t even have the flexibility to

take away the plaque and food particles between the

enamel, underneath the gum line or within braces.

A dental floss is the weapon to get rid of the

abovementioned enamel and mouth “pests”. Flossing can

be finished at the least once a day.

There are literally completely different sorts of flosses and

these rely upon the area that a person has in between

his or her teeth. Most dentists would often recommend

unwaxed floss as a result of it is simpler to glide by

slim spaces.

However, latest studies have discovered that there is

actually no significant distinction in the

effectiveness among the completely different sorts of dental

flosses. When flossing your teeth, you have to be very

careful so that you could keep away from injuring your gums.

Bear in mind, gums are very delicate and so they can bleed

easily. By no means drive the floss under the gums; simply

curve the floss around the fringe of your tooth and type

a letter “c” then glide the floss up and down the facet

of each tooth. Do not forget to floss the back sides

of your enamel as well.

All in all, maintaining your very own private dental

care routine might be straightforward, as long as you will have
sufficient

willingness and determination to attain a fantastic set

of pearly whites.

If you’re one of the many individuals who don’t really

give much consideration to your teeth, don’t wait until

you expertise awful dental-related issues such as

toothache, dangerous breath(halitosis) or bleeding gums.

It is impossible to overstate the significance of the smile of a child.
Decayed, broken or discoloured teeth easily affect self confidence, and
self-esteem, which is so important in today’s world.

Children notice even the slightest oddity in others, so it is important
for your child’s self-esteem and confidence for them to appear just
like the other kids. When a child has noticeably different front teeth,
they are at a risk of being teased by the other kids. Furthermore, the
jaws and gums can become infected if the primary teeth are neglected,
which can cause acute pain, and the child’s overall health can be
negatively affected. Baby teeth that are not taken care of and start to
decay could result in gum problems that can affect the permanent teeth
behind them.

With today’s advanced dental technology, your child should not have to
suffer from these painful and disfiguring conditions that can even have
an adverse affect on the personality. The first thing you need to do is
identify any existing problems, correct them and then learn how to
prevent further problems.

Primary teeth may be referred to as temporary or baby teeth and are
very important to a child’s health and functioning. While the first
permanent tooth appears around age five, they must continue functioning
for many years to come. Our permanent teeth come in to fill the space
of our primary teeth, and therefore, the baby teeth hold the place for
the permanent teeth that will follow. If your child loses a baby tooth
too soon, the other teeth could close the space and not allow enough
room for the permanent tooth to grow out, or cause other orthodontic
issues. Temporary teeth are necessary for proper jaw development, they
aid in chewing and speaking, and they are important for aesthetic
reasons.

Some babies and toddlers suffer from Early Childhood Caries (ECC),
which is a type of decay. It generally begins by affecting the upper
front teeth and can later ruin other teeth as they come through the
gums. Because they lie in such close proximity to the salivary glands,
the lower incisors are usually not affected by the decay. Most parents
do not notice the muted band of white on the gum line that first
appears with ECC.

Those white lines are simply the precursor to caveties that will
surround the neck of each tooth with a brown or black decay.
Additionally, you will notice the teeth appear dull, lackluster and
brown to the eye. There are even cases where the teeth are actually
destroyed, leaving behind nothing but brownish-black root stumps.
Abscesses also known as gum boils are often seen.

The cause is due to the frequent exposure of teeth to sugary liquids.
Among these are milk formula, breast milk and artificial juices. These
sugars provide food for a group of bacteria called mutatis streptococci
which produce acids that attack the teeth.

It is possible for decay to spread from one tooth to another, or from
parent to child, as it is a form of contagious bacteria. There is
research to support the importance of dental health in the mother. If
the mother’s dental care is appropriate and proper, then her children
benefit from this as well. She teaches those same habits and
preventative strategies to her child, typically beginning in infancy.
Unfortunately even babies who develop tooth decay can have problems
with their permanent teeth. The biggest weapon we have against tooth
decay and tooth loss is the utilization of fluoride toothpaste.

Adults and kids that are more particularly apt to getting dental decay
will get the most from using this toothpaste, as it aggressively
reinforces tooth enamel through enhancing the capacity for repelling
decay-inducing acid incidents.

Fluoride toothpaste cannot guarantee teeth that are free of decay by
itself however. The family dentist or dental hygienist can give you
instructions in the appropriate method. It is recommended that you
visit the dentist or dental hygienist twice a year for regular
cleanings.

For plaque that is not easily removed by regular brushing, a
professional cleaning is the best answer. Your overall oral health is
also affected by the foods that you eat. They should refrain from
sugary foods, and choose healthy food for meals and snacks. The less
sugar you eat, the healthier your child’s mouth and smile will be.

feeling healthy and looking beautiful. Veneers can be an ideal solution
for discolored, chipped, stained or crooked teeth. Finding a dentist
can be difficult if you”re not sure where to look.

Veneers and dental implants are common ways to keep your smile feeling
healthy and looking beautiful. Finding a dentist can be difficult if
you”re not sure where to look. Here are some tips for how to find the
best dentist to improve your smile.

Finding a Dentist

You can find listings for all types of dentists, including cosmetic
dentists and oral surgeons in the phone book or in online directories.
Friends, relatives and co-workers can also be a great resource. Ask
about dentists they liked, and if there are any they would steer you
away from.

When you find a dentist you think might be a good fit, schedule a
consultation to meet them and discuss your options. With any care
provider, you should find someone who will listen to your wants and
needs. Be ready to discuss your ideal outcome, and how it looks and
feels.

Veneers and dental implants are both treatments that may require some
sedation. Talk to your new dentist about the options for numbing your
mouth or sedation during your procedure. Inquire about additional costs
that may be incurred from the different options, and ask about how pain
will be managed following your procedure.

Feel free to ask your new caregiver for some references from previous
patients. A good dentist will provide you with names of previous
clients. Talking to someone who has had the same procedure done can be
comforting, and they can give you real feedback on the care provider
you”re considering.

Before making a final decision about your care, consider your dental
insurance. Inquire about your co-pay, and ask if the full fee is due
the day of the procedure or if they will bill your insurance provider.
Ask for a written estimate for the amount of care, and know what your
insurance will cover before any procedures are scheduled.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the ideal replacement option if you are missing a
tooth. Your dentist will place a small screw that is permanently
attached to your jaw bone to act as the tooth’’s root. Once it has
healed, a dental crown will be permanently fixed to the implant.

To find a dentist who will be able to place a dental implant, you
should focus on oral surgeons. Ask your regular dentist or doctor for
referrals to qualified oral surgeons. It is important to do your own
research on their recommendations because some dentists may have
financial commitments or agreements with other care providers.

Look for an experienced dentist who is accredited and has been
practicing for a while. Your first appointment with the dentist should
be a consultation. Ask about success rates and how many surgeries they
have performed. Make sure that your dentist is willing to explain the
risks associated with your dental implant surgery.

A good oral surgeon will perform screening tests ahead of time. Make
sure that your dentist checks for any medical conditions that could
affect the success rate of the implant surgery. Previous treatments
like radiation and conditions like diabetes can affect how well the
implant integrates in to your jaw.

Veneers

Veneers can be an ideal solution for discolored, chipped, stained or
crooked teeth. Sometimes referred to as dental veneers or porcelain
laminates, they are thin pieces of porcelain that are specially bonded
to the surface of your tooth.

When you are trying to find a dentist to apply your veneers, you should
look for someone specializing in cosmetic dentistry. Keep in mind that
any dentist can advertise as a cosmetic dentist. Inquire whether the
dentist you”re thinking about is accredited by the American Academy of
Cosmetic Dentists.

During your consultation, your cosmetic dentist should discuss options
for types and colors of veneers. The goal is a beautiful, natural
looking smile. Ask for before and after photos of work your dentist has
done. A good cosmetic dentist will have many examples of smiles he has
improved for previous patients.

Whether you are trying to find a dentist to apply veneers or perform
implant surgery, these tips should get you on the right track. Finding
a provider who is the right fit is the first step to the smile you”ve
always wanted.

These days, an individual would not even think about visiting the
dentist if no pain is felt. Other than providing patient education,
good family dental care also exposes a person to preventive care so
that these problems are avoided. Call up your local dental office if
you realize how valuable this kind of full dental service could be.

For your family’s dental needs, there is this dentist that you can go
to who is a graduate of a local university not to mention part of the
American Dental Association. He said he believes in providing high
quality dental services for every member of the family. These dentists
are proposing for their patients to recognize their awareness when it
comes to their concerns about infection control and they are also
seeing to it that the latest methods and equipment is in their
possession to maximize patient safety.

His list of services carry a lot of options including teeth cleansing,
dentures, treatment for periodontal disease, veneers, porcelain crowns,
fillings, bonding, extractions, bridges, and root canals. He is a
family dentist and so he is generally concerned when it comes to
preventative dental care. Much emphasis is given by this dentist to the
value of good dental habits developed by children early on. For him
there is much value to be given to the education given to a toddler
with regard to taking care of teeth. In his opinion, parents should
definitely consider bringing their children to the dental office when
they reach the age of three. Not only do they need to do this but they
should also start introducing the children to brushing and flossing
techniques.

Suggestions are given by the American Dental Association so that
children will have no cavities. Eat right during pregnancy. While he is
still in your womb, a baby’s teeth will begin to form and so you need
lots of calcium, phosphorous, and also vitamins A, C, and D. The minute
they begin to appear, primary teeth can easily be prone to cavities and
so you should take care of them by cleaning them regularly.

When the children are very young, use a damp washcloth or piece of
gauze; when they are older, use a soft bristled toothbrush. Much value
is given to teaching a toddler to take care of his teeth. A good
example is the best method to teach another about dental care. Guiding
them can be done with you brushing and flossing their teeth at first.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children
should see a dentist by their first birthday. In order to strengthen
the enamel of the teeth, the use of fluorides is necessary as it
prevents any decay from harming developing teeth. When you see the
dentist, ask about sealants. From the chewing surfaces of the back
teeth begin most cavities and this is where sealants or special plastic
coatings are applied.

Preventing any deposits of food and bacteria in the grooves of the
tooth enamel, a dental professional applies the sealants. If you can,
stay away from frequent snacking. Bacteria in the mouth start producing
cavity causing acids for at least twenty minutes whenever you eat
sugary or starchy foods. Free yourself from the nursing bottle
syndrome. Even if you just do it at bedtime, extended periods of milk
or juice bottle feeding cause the development of the nursing bottle
syndrome which causes damage to baby’s teeth.

Part of the dentist’s concerns also includes periodontal diseases. A
number of bacteria can be found on plaque, the sticky and colorless
film that constantly forms on the teeth, and this can cause cases of
periodontal disease. Irritation in the gums and breaking down the gum
tissue attachments to the teeth are done by the toxins from these
bacteria. From loose teeth to teeth that change orientation when you
bite into something, other warnings for periodontal disease include
constant bad breath and a bad taste in the mouth, pus between the teeth
and gums, red and swollen gums, gums that pull away from the teeth, and
bleeding gums.
